The Inge Genefke and Bent Sørensen Anti Torture Support Foundation have most generously donated 750.000 DKK to our Covid-19 response work. The donation will go directly to our member centres around the globe who are providing life-saving rehabilitation to survivors of torture.
The Covid-19 pandemic poses unprecedented challenges to IRCT members’ ability to supply physical and psychological rehabilitation services to torture survivors. Most survivors are socio-economically marginalised and are unable to physically access services due to lock downs and fear of infection. They are at high risk of being forgotten and left behind in the global COVID-19 response, which had devastating consequences for them and their families.
With this generous donation, we can respond immediately to help members put in place the practical changes necessary to provide remote services and to share their good practices with each-other. This includs buying access to online platforms, phone credit for survivors to be able to connect to remote counselling sessions and protective equipment for those members still able to have services open.
