The IRCT works with our members in Africa to influence legislation and policy in relation to the right to rehabilitation for torture victims across Africa. This includes interventions with the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights (ACHPR) and direct in the national context.

With strong support from the IRCT and the Pan African Reparations Initiative, the African Commission adopted a Resolution on the Right to Rehabilitation for torture victims during its 56th ordinary session in April 2014 and subsequently a General Comment on the right to redress and rehabilitation for torture victims.

These landmark regional standards provide a platform for civil society to advocate with their national goverments to ensure torture victims' rights and help them rebuild their lives. To support this, the IRCT is working to develop national indicators on the right to rehabilitation so that these efforts can be objectively measured.
