The primary objectives of the Centre for Rehabilitation of Torture Survivors are to:

  • Identify all victims of torture, including prisoners, detainees, women, children and workers, and to gather necessary information.
  • Ensure physical, mental and social rehabilitation for persons who have been subjected to torture and members of their families.
  • Motivate and raise awareness among professionals and the general public regarding the act and extent of torture in society.

HRDC is a non-profit, non-political, non-religious, non-government human rights and democracy institution in Bangladesh. The vision of HRDC is a trauma and discrimination free Bangladesh.

HRDC is working to protect and promote human rights, minority rights, indigenous peoples rights, democracy and good governance, and peace, freedom of religion or belief in Bangladesh and to advocate for social harmony, peaceful coexistence, social democracy and religious tolerance in policy making.

Urgent Call to Safeguard Human Rights and Democracy Ahead of January Elections

Since late October 2023, following the rallies and demonstrations co-organised by the political opposition, the ruling party of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Awami League, has resorted to violence to suppress protests and political dissent. The crackdown has resulted in 17 people being killed, including a journalist, and thousands of injured.
